Reduce energy consumption and optimise operations
As you’re no doubt well aware, industrial facilities face significant challenges when it comes to energy consumption for both heating and cooling. The large amounts of energy needed to maintain efficient operations are expensive and contribute considerably to a facility’s carbon footprint.
With rising energy prices, the need for solutions that reduce both costs and environmental impacts is becoming more pressing. Now, Cartesian offers a solution called the Thermal Box.
The Thermal Box helps solve key challenges
- High energy consumption: Industrial facilities often require constant heating and cooling, using large amounts of energy and face raising costs, especially when electricity prices are high.
- Peak demand: The need for large amounts of energy during periods of high activity can lead to consumption spikes and, consequently, high operating costs.
- Unpredictable energy costs: Fluctuations in electricity prices, particularly during periods of high demand, make it difficult to budget for and control energy costs.
- Inefficient energy systems: Many cooling systems are oversized to ensure that they can handle heavy loads, with the result that they operate inefficiently when energy needs are lower.
The Thermal Box reduces energy consumption in industrial facilities
The Thermal Box is a flexible and scalable technology that uses phase change materials (PCMs) to store both heat and cold. This way, facilities can store excess energy when demand is low – for example, at night, when energy prices drop – and release the energy during the day when demand is high. PCMs absorb energy when they melt or freeze and this release it as temperatures change.
✔️ Reduced peak demand and enhanced energy management
The Thermal Box helps reduce peak demand (peak shaving) by reducing the load on energy systems during periods of high consumption. Thus, energy usage can be shifted to times when electricity prices are lower (load shifting) so that energy use is more economical. The system makes more intelligent use of energy possible. With the Thermal Box, you avoid overloading the power grid and paying unnecessarily high energy costs during peak demand periods.
✔️ Integration with existing systems
A key advantage of the Thermal Box is seamless integration with existing energy systems. Because no investments in new equipment are needed, this solution is both cost-effective and flexible. The Thermal Box can be adapted to suit various industrial needs without extensive changes to a facility’s infrastructure.
The advantages of the Thermal Box
- Smarter energy use: The technology optimises your heating and cooling processes by ensuring that energy is used when it is least expensive.
- More consistent energy flow: The storage of energy and release of it when demand is high results in balanced and stable use throughout the day.
- Stable operations: The technology ensures uninterrupted production that is not affected by energy spikes and unstable prices.
- Sustainability: With reduced energy consumption and less strain on the power grid, carbon emissions decrease and your company’s environmental profile is enhanced.
The Thermal Box helps reduce the costs associated with energy spikes and oversized systems and makes operations more sustainable.

District Heating Facilities
Optimising District Heating with Thermal Storage
Operating a district heating facility requires dealing with financial challenges, particularly on cold days when the demand for heating rises and energy prices skyrocket.
The solution is thermal storage, that is, storing heat when demand is low for use when it is needed. This control over energy consumption cuts costs.
Food Industry Facilities
Safer and more cost-efficient operations
Operating buildings in the food industry requires strict temperature regulation to ensure product quality and prevent waste. Both cooling and heating play critical roles, but energy costs can be very high – especially during periods of peak demand.
We can help you tackle these challenges through thermal storage with the Thermal Box.
Warehouses and Logistics Facilities
Optimising energy use for cooling and heating
Looking for cost-effective and sustainable operation of your warehouse and logistics facilities? Large spaces require consistent temperatures to ensure optimal conditions for goods during storage and distribution. Often, the result is high electricity bills.
